Shanita Education Impact Tour

After decades of hardship, Karamoja’s people have embraced tourism as a pathway towards a brighter future. But poverty remains a persistent enemy, driving environmental degradation and trapping communities in a cycle of climate hardship. We’re dedicated to breaking this cycle.

One of the most impactful tools to get out of poverty is education and Kara-Tunga believes that every child deserves access to quality education and the opportunity to unlock their full potential. It therefore has embraced a collaboration with Shanita which works in the same communities as Kara-Tunga.

What is Shanita?

Shanita is a nonprofit organization supporting children in crisis through a long-term, educational journey. We serve children in Karamoja, Uganda, who are deprived of the right to education due to extreme poverty, discrimination, gender, or other unjust reasons.

The Impact Tour

Our “Impact Tour” tour offers travellers an exclusive glimpse into the lives of children and mothers in Karamoja. This specially designed half-day tour.

You will meet the inspiring heroes behind the scenes in the village and at the school. You will also engage deeply with the unique challenges and opportunities shaping the lives of children in this vibrant region.

  • The trip will start in a village where you can meet the local people and learn about their way of life. You’ll also have a chance to talk to the mothers of the children who go to Shanita’s school. These mothers are very committed to their children’s education.
  • Next, we’ll visit one of the school  where 120 children live, learn and dream. The school is making a big difference in the lives of these children. You’ll be able to participate in their Saturday lunch and fun afternoon. This is only on Saturdays to ensure we do not interfere with their regular school program.

When can I book this tour?

The tour is only organised on Saturdays from 9am departure from Kara-Tunga and return at 2pm. It’s only on this day because we don’t want to interfere with the school program of the children. The children enjoy a special meal on Saturdays and we’ll have an afternoon with games and songs where guests can easily participate with respect for the children and teachers.
