Location: Kampala – Karita

 

Participants will arrive today at the starting point in Karita for a joint dinner and welcoming ceremony. One can use their private means or utilise the organised group transport option from Kampala.

Stage 1 – Sat, 26 Oct πŸ‡°πŸ‡ͺ

 

Route: Karita – Lake Turkwel πŸ›Ά

 

Our journey begins near the Kenyan border and winds through traditional villages nestled within the Pokot community’s woodlands. As the day warms, we follow the Turkwel River until reaching the refreshing shores of a nearby lake. Here, you can enjoy a refreshing swim or take a fun boat ride.

 

Distance: 72.9Km / Climb: ↑ 420m / Descend: ↓ 520m

Stage 2 – Sun, 27 Oct πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬

 

Route: Lake Turkwel – Kosike πŸͺ

 

Today, we bid farewell to the Lake Turkwel basin and re-enter Uganda. Our route takes us along a mix of hilly dirt roads and single-track trails through local communities. Enjoy cycling under the shade of lush canopies, interacting with friendly locals, and marveling at the towering dromedaries that roam the landscape.

 

Distance: 61Km / Climb: ↑ 580m / Descend: ↓ 460m

Stage 3 – Mon, 28 Oct πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬

 

Route: Kosike – Moroto ⛰️

 

As we gradually emerge from the remote wilderness, we find ourselves in the heart of Karamoja.Β traversing less-traveled gravel roads that lead to the foothills of Mount Moroto. Cyclists will experience the thrill of riding on the only paved road of the event as it winds around Karamoja’s majestic volcanic peak. The day concludes in the largest city of the tour, providing an opportunity for riders to resupply and recharge before venturing back into the remote wilderness.

Stage 4 – Tue, 29 Oct πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬

 

Route: Moroto – Matany Girls’ πŸ“š

 

Today, we’ll gain insights into the positive change our event is making in Karamoja. We’ll visit local communities and institutions that are empowering the next generation. Our cycling adventure will take us through scenic villages and offer thrilling opportunities on single-track trails.

 

Distance: 73.2Km / Climb: ↑ 240m / Descend: ↓ 430m

Stage 5 – Wed, 30 Oct πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬

 

Route: Matany Girls’ – Abim πŸ¦–

 

Today’s challenge kicks off early to beat the heat and the wind. Riders will conquer open dirt roads, encounter unique birdlife in Bokora Wildlife Reserve, and finish with a thrilling climb through the Jurassic-like Mountain range.

 

Distance: 104Km / Climb: ↑ 310m / Descend: ↓ 380m

Stage 6 – Thurs, 31 Oct πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬

 

Route: Abim – Kotido πŸ›–

 

The morning is spent exploring the trails wind around the majestic landscape and massive granite boulders. Afterward, we’ll venture to the eastern part of the region, where the terrain flattens out and the community’s pride shines through in their distinctive attire and spirit.

 

Distance: 109Km / Climb: ↑ 630m / Descend: ↓ 540m

Stage 7 – Fri, 1 Nov πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬

 

Route: Kotido – Kaabong ⛰️

 

Today’s adventure takes riders into a visually different landscape and passing through an ancient wildlife migration corridor.Β We’ll face the challenge of headwinds and long, gradual climbs, but the rewards will be plentiful, with exhilarating downhill sections and a refreshing drink at a local bar in the vibrant town of Kaabong.

 

Distance: 93Km / Climb: ↑ 800m / Descend: ↓ 480m

Stage 8 – Sat, 2 Nov πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬

 

Route: Kaabong – Kidepo Valley NP 🐘

 

Today’s stage starts with fun single track through the gardens and undulating trails around the massive granite bolders. The terrain changes when it penetrates the mountain range with challenging climbs and thrilling descends until lunch. The day ends with a continued descending ride into Kidepo Valley NP.

 

Distance: 101Km/ Climb: ↑ 920m / Descend: ↓ 1,290m

Safari day – Sun, 3 Nov

 

Route: Kidepo Valley NP

 

Experience the ultimate African adventure with a cycling safari through Kidepo Valley National Park. Encounter iconic wildlife, including herds of buffalo and giraffes, and savor a bush lunch with breathtaking views.
