As the school year ends, students of our partner Shanita spent an unforgettable weekend in Kidepo Valley National Park – one of Uganda’s most amazing natural treasures, right in our backyard.
Why is it special?
Each year, over a million tourists visit Uganda to explore its stunning landscapes and wildlife, yet most children, especially from Karamoja, never get to explore their own country.
20 children from Shanita eft their home district for the first time to see Uganda’s incredible beauty. For them, it was more than a trip – it was a journey of pride, connection, and belonging.

Our partnership
After decades of hardship, Karamoja’s people have embraced tourism as a pathway towards a brighter future. But poverty remains a persistent enemy, driving environmental degradation and trapping communities in a cycle of climate hardship.
We’re dedicated to breaking this cycle. One of the most impactful tool to get out of poverty is education and Kara-Tunga believes that every child deserves access to quality education and the opportunity to unlock their full potential. It therefore has embraced a collaboration with SHANITA which works in the same communities as Kara-Tunga.
SHANITA is a nonprofit organization supporting children in crisis through a long-term, educational journey. We serve children in Karamoja, Uganda, who are deprived of the right to education due to extreme poverty, discrimination, gender, or other unjust reasons.
