Kara-Tunga aims at making Karamoja a must visit destination with people at its centre. It therefore embarked on a journey through the region to sensitise 17 community tourism groups (600 members) along Karamoja’s Warrior Nomad Trail.
The communities were sensitised about the looming tourism opportunity and the need to embrace training programs, preserve our cultural heritage and biodiversity, foster peaceful coexistence, as well as diversify their tourism products to increase their incomes.
Sensitising regional stakeholders
For the second time, 35 key regional stakeholders attended the annual gathering aimed at fostering sustainable coordination of the regional tourism sector with the Warrior Nomad Trail at the centre.
The participants shared their input and ideas on the further development of the tourist trail and the sector at large. The formalisation of the regional tourism hospitality sector into one association was the most important action point and will be actioned upon during the next meeting in November.

Sensitising national stakeholders
On our journey to develop Uganda’s new tourist product Warrior Nomad Trail, we asked for input and buy-in from national stakeholders during a workshop in Kampala. The participants laid out the tourism opportunities in the Karamoja region, the current challenges faced in tourism development and possible solutions.
Karamoja Guides for Uganda Tour Guide Training Assessors – Two years ago we founded the Karamoja Tourism Academy and relied heavily on people from other regions to assess our students. Today we’re celebrating the graduation of our very own Karamoja Guides for Tour Guide Training Assessors.
Marije Boot (Netherlands), Tour of Karamoja 2022 – Marije participated for the second time in Uganda’s annual wilderness bicycle event and this year she brought a friend along.
We have come from far… tourism is positively changing the image of Karamoja and we hope that this collaboration with Uganda Tourism Board, NBS Television, NTV, UBC, can inspire tourism professionals and local communities to embrace Community Tourism in Karamoja as opportunity for inclusive development.
