Tour of Karamoja Ride4GirlChild participants and friends have fundraised $7,525 for 15 scholarships going to vulnerable girls from host communities along the Warrior Nomad tourist trail through northeast Uganda. The girls will get a life-changing opportunity through a fully funded vocational training at Matany Girls Vocational School.
I just returned from a weeklong 350-mile cycling tour in the truly remote reaches of Northeast Uganda and Northwest Kenya known as the Tour of Karamoja; and while I feel a little tired from the physical effort, boy do I feel inspired, mentally refreshed, recharged and rejuvenated!
Until recently, Karamoja was barely a blip on the map. Yet, the breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage are a hard contrast with visible signs of severe poverty and struggle, as Karamoja stands as one of the world’s most impoverished regions.
Marije Boot (Netherlands), Tour of Karamoja 2022 – Marije participated for the second time in Uganda’s annual wilderness bicycle event and this year she brought a friend along.
