The Kara-Tunga Foundation and UKARIMU Academy, in partnership with USAID’s Biodiversity for Resilience (B4R) Activity, announce the launch of 12 new community-based tourism experiences at three Ugandan national parks.
Rurambira Community Conservancy (RCC) – Lake Mburo National Park
Got Apwoyo – Murchison Falls National Park
KKAKKA – Kidepo Valley National Park
These experiences were unveiled at the recently concluded Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) 2024, generating significant interest from lodges, tour operators, and visitors alike.
These experiences offer visitors the chance to immerse themselves in the heart of Ugandan communities, fostering cultural exchange and supporting local livelihoods. Kara-Tunga empowered 24 local guides and activity providers through a 2-week training program, equipping them with the skills to curate unforgettable community tourism experiences.
From guided nature walks to traditional craft workshops, these experiences highlight the unique character of each landscape. With promotional booklets now circulating among travel partners, these experiences are poised to become integral parts of Ugandan safaris.
While still in their initial stages, these community-driven experiences offer a glimpse into the future of sustainable tourism in Uganda.
