Before setting off we got in touch with friendly and sensitive Theo Vos, the owner of Kara-Tunga, a very relaxed yet professional agency, specialised in Karamojaland. We figured out a detailed programme. His website was helpful in getting an idea of what is on offer. But anything that comes to your mind is possible.
We had a great, experienced and steady driver Fred with us who tries to adapt to who you are. We became friends on the way.
Even on the way we could make some changes in our programme, like staying a bit longer where we really liked it. It’s really as you like, and it’s always safety first.
Kara-Tunga is no budget tourorganisation such as you can find in areas of Uganda and other African countries which are overwhelmed and spoilt by mass-tourism. But prices are very reasonable and it gives the opportunity to travel to get a solid impression of life and traditions in this unique part of the world. Kara-Tunga works with local guides who speak the local languages which is very useful. And they support social projects so that many local people benefit from the early steps of tourism in this region.
We thoroughly recommend Kara-Tunga for a tailormade trip through Karamojaland with Pian Upe nature reserve in the south and Kidepo NP in the north. It’s also possible to to fix just a few days with them on your trip through all of Uganda.
