We flew from Amsterdam via Kigali (Rwanda) to Entebbe, Uganda. The next day follows a spectacular domestic flight with a Chesna to Kidepo Airport. On the way we fly over the Victoria Nile, which flows from here to the Jordan!
From Savannah Lodge we make a safari on foot with Ranger Simon and an afternoon jeep safari. The Kidepo Valley National Park is impressively beautiful and it is not touristy in northeastern Uganda.
The next day we travel over endless gravel roads in more than eight hours from Kidepo to Karamoja Safari Camp at the foot of Mount Moroto. During our cultural tour we get to know the local population and their traditional housing. Two brothers steal my heart: so cheerful, playful and pure. They have no mirror and never see themselves. My camera brings them into ecstasy. Touchingly beautiful…
If you travel to or from Kidepo Valley NP, this place is worth a detour. Not specific about the lodge itself, but Theo and his colleagues really offer a special program to get to know the area and the Karamojo people.
Maria Schiffer, 11th December 2022 – I’m back in Uganda because of Theo, whom I met while working on my book Eating With Africa In 2018. I’ve been traveling along the Warrior Nomad Trail the last week, researching and experiencing Community Tourism.
The Tour of Karamoja is more than just a bike event. It is an opportunity to experience the rich culture and stunning scenery of least travelled East Africa. Riders will meet different cultures, see untouched landscapes and create opportunities for the most vulnerable girls in this area.
Are you an enthusiastic tour company and eager to learn about Uganda’s northeastern Karamoja? Are your clients interested in adventure and community tourism? Don’t hesitate and sign-up for Uganda’s first Warrior Nomad Trail familiarisation trip.
