Trekking in Uganda: Climbing Mount Kadam Volcano – Day 1
From the village of Nakapiripirit, the five of us and a group of thirteen porters, cooks and Ugandan guides started our 3-day trek to the top of volcano Mount Kadam (3,063m).
Bodah bodahs (moped taxis) drop us off at the foot of the volcano. We find a way through the rainforest, densely overgrown at the end of the wet season. What an experience!
We walk with daypacks, the porters carry cooking equipment, food, water, a complete toilet tent, tents and much more up the mountain. An experience in itself to experience.
Along the way we greet jungle inhabitants and view their huts made of woven branches, corn leaves and reeds. The view is great, it makes me silent…
We build our tent camp on a rock plateau at 2,400 meters. Cook David makes coffee and tea and later a delicious dinner. There is a strong wind and after sunset we crawl into our sleeping bags satisfied.
