Lives changed

Background

Decades of marginalization have left Karamoja facing significant challenges, including early forced marriages, child labor and migration. These issues disproportionately affect girls and prevent them from reaching their full potential. Matany Girls’ Vocational School is committed to breaking this cycle.

About the school

Matany Girls’ Vocational School stands out as a home where young women can escape the shackles of adversity and unlock their potential. This institution offers a safe space for the girls and equips them with the skills and confidence to thrive.
Our holistic approach includes vocational training, entrepreneurship development, and life skills to empower them to become independent and gives them the opportunity not only for a better life, but often for survival.

About the founder

Florence’s personal journey as a scholarship recipient inspired her to create Matany Girl’s Vocational School. She never forgot how much help and opportunity the scholarship was for her and she felt that she wanted to give something back. Her vision is to lift rural communities out of poverty by providing vulnerable girls with opportunities to succeed, knowing from her own experience that even a little support can lead to significant change.
