Mountains of Karamoja
The mountains of Karamoja are an exciting alternative to the more strenuous climbs in East Africa with many of the same attractions, a milder climate, lower elevation and requires no special equipment or technical experience.
As part of the Adventure Tourism Uganda initiative, the above facilitators held a one week baseline assessement of 12 hiking guides from Uganda’s Karamoja sub-region with the support of Karamoja Tourism Academy. With the knowledge gained, they will return to Karamoja in November 2021 to give the first of its kind hiking guide training in Karamoja.
Be part of the training
Support the training of the tour guides in the first two weeks of November 2021 by joining one of the trips hiking Mount Moroto, Mount Kadam and Mount Napak.
Karamoja Tourism Academy
With the growth currently experienced in Karamoja’s tourism industry, the demand for qualified and experienced tour guides and hospitality staff is on the increase.
The reality is that the industry is growing faster than the amount of trained and certified people. The Karamoja Tourism Academy development programme aims at bridging this gap by training learners in the relevant skills as well as creating the opportunity to gain the necessary experience to enter the market as a qualified tour guide and hospitality staff.
Demand-driven training programs
In collaboration with various partners, the academy is developing tailer made trainings to match the growing demand for the regional culture and adventure tourism sector like:
The lately trendy Uganda birding destination is our unexplored Karamoja region. Our Kara-Tunga gudie Brian took Mr. Crammy Wanyama of Avian Safaris and his clients for a day of birding around Mount Moroto Central Forest Reserve along the Kenyan border.
The Karamoja Tourism Academy Brian and co-facilitator Peter are visiting the students of the Tourism and Hospitality training (Ukarimu Academy) in Eastern Uganda. The students have concluded 3 months of internship at their workplace and are about to start their exchange internship at a different hotel.
Our partners of UKARIMU Academy invited the Karamoja Tourism Academy and other hospitality and tourism training stakeholders from around the country for an introduction workshop for the upcoming UKARIMU COVID-19 resilience training program.
