With the growth currently experienced in Karamoja’s tourism industry, the demand for qualified and experienced tour guides and hospitality staff is on the increase. The reality is that the industry is growing faster than the amount of trained and certified indigenous people.
The Karamoja Tourism Academy development programme aims at bridging this gap by training learners in the relevant skills as well as creating the opportunity to gain the necessary experience to enter the market as a qualified tour guides and hospitality staff.
We’re enlightened to announce our partnership with the Uganda Red Cross Society, aimed at equipping our staff with the skills to provide more safety during our activities, at our guesthouse and for the community around us.
We are proud to see our tour guides (Emmanuel, Peter, Brian and Thomas) being part of this milestone in professionalising Uganda’s tourism sector through government regulated licensing of tourist guides.

Skilling Karamoja Hiking Guides on Mount Moroto – Kara-Tunga is building a sustainable community-lead regional tourism sector through skilling with the Karamoja Tourism Academy. Together with our partners, we develop demand-based curriculum, train local trainers and local assessors aimed at increasing the accessibility and inspiring the community.
