Our partners of UKARIMU Academy invited the Karamoja Tourism Academy and other hospitality and tourism training stakeholders from around the country for an introduction workshop for the upcoming UKARIMU COVID-19 resilience training program.
Background of program
Due to the prevalence of the COVID-19 earlier last year, now more than ever, an effective crisis response strategy for the sector will require human resources with improved health, hygiene, safety awareness and marketing and communication skills.
Ukarimu
UKARIMU The first open-source curriculum on tourism and hospitality training in Africa, centered around sustainability and inclusivity.
Ukarimu aims at supporting the bridging of the skills gap, by offering relevant tourism & hospitality skilling opportunities. Based on principles of active learning and a combination of hard and soft skills, we prepare young adults with little education and limited options for a career in the sector.
Karamoja Tourism Academy
This program will be the third training cycle for the Karamoja Tourism Academy focused on improving the quality of service and creating meaningful job opportunities in the Karamoja sub-region of Northeastern Uganda. This program involves all departments in the hospitality and tourism sector: from tourism entrepreneurs and site guides to hotel staff.
We are glad to have concluded a 2 days training under Uganda Safari Guides Association (USAGA) on mechanisms to prevent, detect and respond to violence against women (VAW) and Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the workplace.
We are excited to announce a new educational partnership with Dutch Noorderpoort College to strengthen our capacity in Karamoja regional tourism development through skilling.
We are excited to receive the first donation of clothing and equipment for hiking guides from Dutch hiking tour company Bergwandelen.com, expedition leader Jan Bakker and Royal Dutch Climbing and Mountaineering Association (NKBV).
The first group of Karamoja regional hiking guides have successfully completed the hiking guiding training by Bergwandelen.com in collaboration with Karamoja Tourism Academy. It was an eyeopening experience for both the participants and the facilitators, hiking the two highest mountain ranges (Mt Kadam and Mt Moroto) in Karamojaland.
