Karamoja Female Guides Training in Northeastern Uganda – While the global tourism sector is struggling to have the tourism business back to its normal operations, we decided not to stop offering our services. Kara-Tunga’s Karamoja Tourism Academy in collaboration with Nature Uganda held a training for women in Karamoja on how to get involved in tourism services.
The Karamoja region, (Northeastern Uganda) is one of the hidden gems of Uganda. It is very rich in cultural diversity, has over 50 bird species that are not seen in the other parts of the country, has about 10 or more mammals that are not known to be in other regions of Uganda.
60 women from over 6 districts joined the training. Herbert Byaruhanga and Nature Uganda promised to be coming back to check the progress of the trained women. Mr. Byaruhanga is confident that some of the trainees will take birding as specialisation, others will do culture while others will concentrate on adventure.
Initiation Meeting Community Tourism Development Mount Kadam – Nakapiripirit local government (Southern Karamoja subregion, Northeastern Uganda) invited Kara-Tunga Tours to the foothills of Mount Kadam to explore possibilities of collaboration in terms of community tourism development.
Trekking Uganda’s Mount Kadam with Kenya-based Dutch primatologist Yvonne A. de Jong and American conservationist and ecologist Thomas M. Butynski have had an interest for what lies within the forgotten corners of Uganda’s Karamoja sub-region and bordering Kenya’s Turkana and West-Pokot counties.
We are excited to receive the first donation of clothing and equipment for hiking guides from Dutch hiking tour company Bergwandelen.com, expedition leader Jan Bakker and Royal Dutch Climbing and Mountaineering Association (NKBV).
The recently formed Mount Moroto Tourism Association has completed its first action point being the maintenance of the three main trails. These trails are the main access routes for the community and also for tourists. We are proud to see the first action point to be completed successfully with the necessary accountability of the association.
