Adventure tourism is the fastest growing tourism niche worldwide. With its diverse landscapes and welcoming people, Uganda has tremendous opportunities to further develop adventure and cultural tourism. In a recent study – commissioned by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands – product development and access to skills training were considered crucial to the further sustainable development of the sector, while adventure and cultural tourism were particularly emphasised as areas with untapped potential. The “Tourism Trails in the Pearl of Africa: project, will harness this potential in the coming yers.
The Kingdom of The Netherlands and seven Dutch-Ugandan companies have launched a project aimed at diversifying Uganda’s tourism offer by developing new marketable cultural and outdoor adventure tourism products.
The involved companies will work closely together within their areas of expertise being: cycling, hiking, running, motorbike and cultural tourism.
Launch of Tourism trails in The Pearl of Africa
The companies will develop themed tourism trails in the Pearl of Africa during the three year project and build the capacity of local stakeholders to ensure the best guest experience and social-economical impact for the communities along the trails.
The Uganda Wildlife Authority is in the final stages of introducing ten southern white rhino into Kidepo Valley National Park. This initiative aims to enhance tourism and the park’s ecosystem.

Launch of Tourism trails in The Pearl of Africa – The 3-year project is aimed at improving and diversifying products in adventure and cultural tourism in Uganda’s East and Northeast (Sebei and Karamoja subregions).
