(Read original review on Facebook) Ever since I have travelled to Uganda I’ve visited many places already. But Karamoja is different, in a good way, from all the places I’ve been to. A region rich of beautiful nature, beautiful people and a lot of cattle and goats.
Hiking mount Moroto is definitely a must (for people who are somehow fit). And visiting the Karimajong tribe and it’s Kraal is definitely the most awesome moment of my trip. Get to know how they live, how they work and communicate with them was such an experience! Even though communication was a bit of a problem since they don’t speak Luganda/English, our two amazing Guides from Kara-Tunga tours got to translate every single word for us!
Karamoja is a good hide away from the big town where you can experience the way of living of the original tribe of Uganda. For sure I’ll be back soon to discover more secrets from Karamoja.

Discovering some parts of the Karamoja district together with Kara Tunga was an unforgettable experience. Thanks to our awesome guides we were able to make the most out of our time in Moroto and the surrounding areas. And thanks to all the people at the Kara Tunga Guesthouse we always had a lovely “homebase” ahead of each activity.
Arriving after a long bus ride we got picked up by our guide from the bus station, had a refreshing shower and could enjoy the delicious food at the Kara Tunga Guesthouse while planning the following two days.
Day one started early with a yummy breakfast before heading to Mt. Moroto. Due to potential rain showers (luckily for the local agriculture) we decided to do a shorter hike without camping at the top of the mountain. We climbed up to St. Lorenz from where we had a breathtaking view. Back at the guesthouse and after some time for relaxation we headed to a Kraal in the savanna and met amazing Karamojong people. At their campfire we shared interesting life experiences and stories before sleeping outside under the stars.
On day two after waking up to a stunning sunrise we said goodbye to our new friends and went back to the Kara Tunga Guesthouse for showers (always nice and neat), breakfast and some more time to chill out and soak in the atmosphere. During the noon time we went for a bike ride through Moroto town, had lunch and packed our backpacks for going to a Karamojong village. There we met lots of children and again amazing people who were happy to share their life experiences and daily activities with us what we appreciated very much. After spending the night in the village we had to get up very early to catch the bus for going back.
Alakara Noi Noi Noi! For this very special experience and all the new things I have learnt!

We had an amazing experience spending a night in the Kraal and visiting a Manyatta.
Traveling with young children (ages btw 5-10) made this an even more amazing adventure. Our guides were great and very entertaining with the children, which allowed us, adults also have the full experience. Even though shy at first, it didn’t take long for the kids to engage in local games, cuddling baby goat and sheep, dancing and jumping.
Definitely worth a trip to Moroto and easy to combine with a trip to Kidepo, Sipi and/or Mbale to break up the journey.
