The preparation of Sis/Honey wine goes back many centuries and has been practised over the years. The activity is spearheaded by
the elderly women who start by putting harvested honey into a prepared pot, mix it with water and seal it with clay and a calabash
to ferment over a certain period. The visitors will also get the chance to taste some of the Ik precious honey wine locally referred
to as Sis.
Environmental Conservation
The Ik have mastered the skill of extracting wine from honey. This practise has enabled the Ik to embarrass the practise of bee keeping. The bee keeping practice has encouraged the Ik to conserve the environment because it is from the trees that the
bees collect nectar to produce honey.
Cultural Heritage Preservation
The making of Sis was in the vag of extinction with a few elderly women and men still holding on to this special skill of craftsmanship. The tour will encourage the passing of this knowledge to the younger generation through their participation in these experiences not only as guides but also as helpers.
