To continue scale-up our impact, KTF seeks an organised self-starter to be our new Communications Officer and bring public attention to our work.
We are seeking a creative and entrepreneurial colleague to help to grow KTF content collection system and improve our storytelling: enabling field teams to collect content that will drive awareness of the voices of the targeted participants, the impact vehicles of KTF and overseeing content that embodies KTF’s values. The successful applicant is required to start work in September 2023.
Organisation background
Kara-Tunga Foundation is a Ugandan non-profit organisation that works in four districts (Moroto, Nakapiripirit, Kaabong, Karenge) of the Karamoja sub-region in northeastern Uganda. Karamoja is a semi-arid area and home to an agro-pastoral population with a predominantly semi-nomadic pastoral lifestyle. The region is characterised by poverty, food insecurity, and environmental degradation. But the region also has untapped opportunities.
KTF addresses these challenges by supporting three types of conservation enterprises aimed at sustainable community development: 1) Ecotourism, 2) Apiary, and 3) Agroforestry. KTF seeks an organised self-starter to be our new operations assistant and support the organisation’s growth.
Responsibilities
You are a clear, concise communicator with a track record of end-to-end ownership of your work. Your duties are following but not limited to:
Develop, implement and manage our communications strategy
Manage and coordinate campaigns with colleagues and define KPIs
Manage and oversee social media content to increase meaningful awareness.
Create a monthly newsletter, monitor and improve its success and amount of subscribers
Create editorial calendars and syndication schedules
Develop social media best practices for sales and marketing colleagues to maximize overall effort and campaigns.
Generate engaging and shareable content through the creation of actual editorial content and campaigns.
Stay up to date with the latest social media best practices and technologies
Liaise with the field teams to produce high-impact, visually appealing content, like photos and videos.
Monitor SEO and user engagement and suggest content optimization
Create communication plans and campaigns, manage and increase fan base and engagement for the organisation’s online platforms
Work with influencers, development partners and media for organisation brand exposure on their social media channels
Responsible for content development and communication of the organisation’s brand social media channels, updating and maintaining them on a regular basis
Measure impact, generate reports and provide actionable insights
Qualifications
Experience with Newsletter software (Mailchimp), Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Tik Tok, Meta, WordPress.
Experience with image manipulating software like Canva or Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/Premiere
Experience making photos and videos with a smartphone as well as a digital / DSLR photo camera
Able to work excellently independently as well as in a multidisciplinary team.
Positive attitude, creativity, attention to detail and customer oriented with good multitasking and organizational ability.
Champion brevity; you can deftly distil a blog or article into a snappy post
Able to spot relevant trends, and themes to use as topical news
Understanding of online communication, search engine optimization
Ability to optimize content strategically to drive results
Positive attitude and customer-oriented
Requirements
Minimum diploma in a related field or proven work experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience in communications or online marketing
Strong organizational and time management skills.
High integrity and confidentiality.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Expectations
Starting date: September 2023
Contract duration: 1 year, renewable.
Place of work: Moroto town.
