Position Summary
Kara-Tunga Foundation is looking for a passionate, self-motivated, and sales-driven person to start up a new apiary shop in Moroto. The person will provide advice on bee-keeping to customers, sell the best quality equipment and tools, and also purchase raw honey from producers. With your skills and dedication, you can make a real difference in the lives of farmers and their families.
Organisation background
Local beekeepers lack access to the market, up-to-date knowledge and skills, and quality tools and equipment. Therefore apiary as a business has not yet been embraced by the masses. Though, apiary has a proven potential to incentivise environmental conservation and create alternative income streams for the community.
Kara-Tunga Foundation has therefore partnered with Malaika Honey and is opening a Karamoja regional Honey Centre in Moroto town. Kara-Tunga Foundation has established a network of 200 farmers and will work with any other beekeeper in the region.
Malaika Honey has been in Uganda for more than 10 years promoting beekeeping for business. This partnership will improve the positioning of local bee farmers by providing access to information and capacity building, quality apiary tools and equipment and a guaranteed market for apiary produce.
Responsibilities
We are looking for someone with proven experience working in the Karamoja region in the apiary value chain and also in sales. Your duties are following but not limited to:
Provide advice on bee-keeping to customers. This includes answering questions about bee-keeping, providing recommendations on equipment and tools, and helping customers troubleshoot problems.
Sell best quality equipment and tools. This includes hive boxes, frames, foundations, bee suits, smokers, extractors, and other beekeeping supplies.
Purchase raw honey from producers. This includes sourcing honey from local producers, negotiating prices, and ensuring that the honey is of the highest quality.
Manage the day-to-day operations of the shop. This includes tasks such as stocking inventory, processing orders, and providing customer service.
Promote the shop and its products. This includes advertising in local publications, attending trade shows, and networking with other beekeepers.
Qualifications
Knowledge of beekeeping. This includes understanding the biology of bees, the different types of beekeeping equipment, and the best practices for beekeeping.
Customer service skills. This includes being able to answer questions, provide recommendations, and solve problems in a friendly and helpful manner.
Business skills. This includes being able to manage inventory, track sales, and set prices.
Marketing skills. This includes being able to promote the shop and its products through advertising, social media, and networking.
Additional
Fluent in English and Ngakarimojong
Minimum diploma in a related field
2 years of experience in the apiary
Strong organizational and time management skills.
High integrity and confidentiality.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Expectations
Starting date: July 2023
Contract duration: 6 months, renewable
